Internet Filtering Software
What internet filtering software is the most effective, cost effective and has the best performance? That is most common question heard among our ranks. This post is directed to thoughtful insight in regard to these concerns and the right approach to Internet Filtering.
When selecting an Internet filter, the most important is the inability to remove or circumvent the software. Passwords and user-names are not near secure enough, just talk to the teens in your church. If they are honest with you, they know much more about computers and the necessary passwords than their parents. If you truly want a reliable filter, find the company that controls the removal of the filter. It sounds like hassle, it is. That is what you want, if a user is in a moment of weakness, hassle may be what it takes to keep them from sin. The purpose of the filter is to be a hindrance to evil, sometimes it takes some tweaking to make it right, but our experience shows that three days of use will have most kinks worked out of any internet filter.
The second most important factor is accountability. An internet filter with the ability to set up accountability completes the whole package. It is a double deterrent, and parents are able to monitor all the computers in the home from any internet connection. So you want a reliable internet filter with accountability and what about speed?
If the filter slows down your internet connection then you wont use it for long. Nobody wants to pay for an internet and then have it slowed down by anything. A word of caution here, if you have an issue with speed, call your filter provider first. It could be you need to scan for malware or viruses. Your internet filter should not slow down your connection to the internet, period. With that all said, what would service that is reliable, accountable, and fast cost?
There are so many companies with packages that it is tough to sort out the best performance for the best price. Internet filtering services can be found from $4 to $9.95. Forget about the free services, it is so time consuming to keep internet filtering software current and running right that no one can do this for free. The free software companies have a great idea, but fall short of delivering the top of the line filter. The best range to find a reliable filter is 5-6 dollars. This is affordable and the companies found in these ranges offer some quality service as well.
In conclusion, an internet filter that is reliable, cannot be easily uninstalled, has accountability features, and fast is the ultimate goal. Our families deserve to have a filth free internet and at 6 dollars a month an internet filter that delivers is definitely worth it. You get what you pay for. From my experience, the free filters don’t come with much tech support.
